Black Pod – Elgg Theme
Black Pod, Free theme for Elgg. This free Elgg theme features blue, black and white colors. It is probably the most popular and Best Free Elgg Theme. Works on Elgg 1.6.1 (1.5 uses different image styles for message icons).
This is my first Elgg theme to be released and it is free to download.
It is nice and clean looking and it was tested in Mozilla Firefox 3.5 and Internet Explorer 8 and IE 5.
Please let me know your experiences or problems with other browsers (leave a comment below).
Main Features:
SEO Friendly Titles: Reversed Sitename and page/item title so sitename shows after page title
ElggTopbar is removed completely and all items show under header in new bar (except messages).
Messages (if any) displayed on left of search.
Copyright year in footer automatically updates current year.
If using External Pages plugin, left side text will appear under “Welcome Username” after they are logged in.
Main theme uses text with site name wrapped in H1 tags in header (less bandwidth), Theme with logo image header is available below as well.
If you plan to use image, just make sure your logo image is 57px high and not more than 400px wide and has transparent background as header wrapper uses image as background. name it logo.gif and upload to /black_pod_free/graphics/ folder). Once you have that overwrite existing header_contents.php file with this one.

UPDATE : Elgg 1.6.1 users , “Login standalone doesn’t exist” When clicked on “log in” link in topbar right takes you to blank page or you get error.
Elgg 1.6.1 does not come with login.php file in account folder (like 1.5 does) and my theme has a link to standalone login page. To fix this you need to have copy of Elgg 1.5 go to folder on your pc where it is and locate login.php file in elgg1.5\account folder, than upload it to your server to same location yoursite.com\account and that should do it.
If you don’t have a copy of Elgg 1.5 I’m hosting this file for you to download HERE!
REMEMBER TO DELETE CACHE or Disable it for the time being or you won’t see any changes after editing your site.

How to Install:
Extract files from the zip, upload black_pod_free folder to your server ( elgg installation directory/mod ) and enable in Admin Tool Administration.

Have a quick question, what changes do i have to make to default .css to add a image to the header. Ive tried everything but the image wont show.

Thanks for downloading BlackPod, glad you like it.
There is a optional header file that uses image as logo, download it from http://juipo.com/downloads/Blackpod_Optional_Header_Logo and unzip to your PC.
Than upload/overwrite existing header_contents.php located in: yourdomain.com(wherever your elgg installation is)\mod\black_pod_free\views\default\page_elements\ with this new one.
Than make sure your New logo image is 57px high and not more than 400px wide and has transparent background as header wrapper uses image as background. Name your image LOGO.gif and upload to /black_pod_free/graphics/ folder). Capital letters are IMportant!!!!

Another little bug found: If you don’t use riverdashboard (replacement for dashboard) widgets don’t work.
To fix this you need to re-download the theme (it has new file in it already) or if you have already made customizations than DOWNLOAD initilize_elgg.php (link above) , unzip on PC and upload/replace initialise_elgg.php file to yoursite.com\mod\black_pod_free\views\default\js
and that should do it.
I’m new to this… but when I enable this theme, I get an error message:
Plugin black_pod_free was enabled successfully.
black_pod_free is a misconfigured plugin.
And it basically crashes my whole site, so I have to go into File Manager and delete the whole theme and refresh the page to get my page back.
Help?
Hi, if you get that error, most likely when you uploaded you did not go to the last folder black_pod_free. The theme files are in two folders inside zip file (eg. black_pod_free/black_pod_free/ then files)
So just delete folder on your server and upload the last folder from zip so the folder structure is like this: black_pod_free/ then theme files.

thank you for your work. I try modified theme and I understand how you designed it. One problem I have with .
I change #page_container in /mod/black_pod_free/views/css.php and cssBig.php but i could not see my changes. When define style direct in header_contents.php in section everything working properly.

Hi Anton,
Thanks for using our free Elgg theme. The styling is controlled by /mod/black_pod_free/views/css.php , I did not realize that cssBig.php was left in there, it is just one of the testing files it does not do anything. You are doing the right thing /mod/black_pod_free/views/css.php is the right file to edit. If you are trying to customize header and menu bar than #page_container will not affect it, #page_container holds everything below header.
Two other things to keep in mind: you need to keep the theme at the bottom of plugin list in your Tool administration and make sure you have simple cache and file cache DISABLED while making changes or changes will not be visible right away.
Just a quick question, what version of Elgg are you running? 1.5, 1.6.1 or 1.7?

Thanks for using our free Elgg theme. Now are you talking about Edit Page link/button on user Profile page or in Dashboard? To disable this option you will need to modify Profile or Dashboard plugin code. This is not recommended as it will make future Elgg upgrades a bit harder.
Our Elgg Team can make this mod for you if you wish. There may be a way to actually do this from theme or we can create small plugin that can override the default view.

Please help, I am from the Middle East and I just followed all steps of uploading the theme to the mod file and emptied all cache on my safari and kept the theme at the end of the plugins list. Still my website appears to have a primitive white and black look and the theme is not active , how can I make the theme work? please help me!

@ shabana Are you using one with image as logo or other one?
Disable the theme in admin, delete it from the server via FTP, re-download the theme ( you might want to try the other Blackpod theme – http://juipo.com/free-tamplates/elgg-themes/blackpod-with-dropdown-menu-elgg-theme/ ) then unzip it and re-upload to server (mod folder).
Make sure the Simplecache and Filepath cache is Disabled in your “Site Administration” and also make sure that when unziping you are uploading last folder inside the zip.
There seems to be a problem either with your zip program or FTP program because there seems to be no css file.

2)Trying to upload photos (around 1.4 mb and 4.7 mb) it does not upload

Glad to hear it works. I’m not sure if there is a Arabic language pack but that is something you set when you install Elgg (after you insert your database information, on next page you set the language)
Uploading larger photos in Elgg depends on your server php configuration. You might want to contact your host provider and see the limits.
The requested action (systemsettings/install) was not defined in the system.
Thats the message I am getting after uploading Elgg folders directly to my website Ohrosh.com instead of Ohrosh.com/elgg/ any clue? many thanks

Are you copying the Elgg files from your Ohrosh.com/elgg/ directory or you are uploading “Fresh” install of Elgg?
You can’t just copy your Elgg files from Ohrosh.com/elgg/ to Ohrosh.com/ without editing the configuration files as your settings file and database is already configured for sub-folder/sub-directory install.
